Series: We Pray You

Acrylic on Canvas; 24x30 each; Lent 2006
Mighty King, All the round earth, Morning Star, Marvelous flame
This series explores the baptismal reality of the Easter promise through reflections on images from Hurricane Katrina and the words of the Exultet. In the Easter Vigil we plead with God: Now sanctify this water, we pray you. These images reflect our prayers that the waters of death will bring new life. The black and white series also points to the issues of racism raised by critiques of the response to the hurricane.

Diptych: This is the night

Acrylic on Canvas, 2 panels, 30x40 each, Lent 2006
This piece tries to imagine the tension between burden and relief that Mary might have felt as her Son's resurrection became known. The background pattern acknowledges the traditional 'mary blue' and references my fibers training by implying a quilt design. The pattern also suggests the beads of the rosary.
